Abstract This article offers the first scholarly account of International Sakharov Hearings, which were prompted by so-called Moscow Appeal (1974) and took place in Copenhagen (1975), Rome (1977), Washington, DC (1979), Lisbon (1983), London (1985). The provides a detailed examination each hearing, from amateurish politically murky origins to more mainstream quite successful event London. also attempts an overall assessment hearings as original, important case international citizens’ tribunal resulting transnational human rights activism pursued Andrei Sakharov's name context Helsinki process.
